STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: DAPHNEE MOMPEROUSSE

Get to know the wonderful Daphnee Momperousse — our newest Student Spotlight! She started coming to Soul Flyte April of this year and is already about to hit her 100th visit! Seems like she's got the Soul Flyte bug and is officially hooked! She is a sweet soul that you'll want to meet in this lifetime. We are so lucky to have her as part of our tribe. We recently sat down with Daphnee to chat a little bit more about her and the role AntiGravity yoga has played in her life since her first class — check it out:

How did you find out about Soul Flyte?
I found Soul Flyte after researching yoga studios in Rockland County.

What’s something you can't live without?
I can't live without chocolate, blueberries, traveling, and music!

What brought you to try your first class at SF?
I came to Soul Flyte after doing African dance and developing tendonitis.  I was looking for a great workout that was low impact and would allow me to stretch out my legs and feet.

What’s your favorite time of day?
I absolutely love dawn! Sunrise is beautiful, and it is the coolest temperature during the day.  It's so quiet, and I get my best ideas at that time.  Everything is refreshed after much-needed rest.

Do you have a favorite pose at SF?
I love challenging my body to achieve different poses, like Vitruvian Man and Mermaid, but there's nothing like the feeling of getting into a simple Spiderman.  After a long day of work, running errands, and the drama of raising a teenager, the stresses just seem to rush right out of my head, literally, as soon as I invert.  It's such a wonderful feeling!

What’s the best meal you've eaten?
That's impossible for me to decide! Being of Haitian descent, I've eaten the greatest cuisine all my life!  Being a New Yorker and avid traveler, I have experienced the magic of other cultures' tasty dishes too. My favorites include Mexican, Indian, Jamaican, Thai, Lebanese, Ethiopian, and Kenyan! I suppose if I had to request a final meal, it would be my mom's stewed chicken with lots of onions and sweet peppers with rice and sweet peas.

Favorite thing about coming to Soul Flyte?
My favorite thing may be the really nice people I've met here at Soul Flyte.  From instructors to students to staff, everyone is so nice!  I think it's because of all the endorphins, lol.  I also can't believe how much stronger my body is becoming.  My core strength, which has always been my weakness, has improved tremendously.  I am more flexible.  My hair is growing like crazy too!

Would you recommend it to others?
I have recommended Soul Flyte to friends, family, colleagues, and the world wide web!  My 16 year old son was very reluctant, but now he understands the benefits and likes coming because he feels relief in his back!

Favorite/best place you've traveled to:
Kenya is by far my favorite trip of all time!  I got to visit the city, country, beach, and savannah.  Surprisingly, warthogs were my favorite safari animal! I'm looking forward to going again in 2 years.

What's your favorite book? Movie?
The Autobiography of Malcolm X As Told to Alex Haley is my favorite book.  It teaches us that we are always learning and growing, and that human beings share this world.  We need to work together as global community members!

My favorite movie is Coming to America.  I laugh until I cry every time I watch it!

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
Sky diving.  I still can't believe I did it.  It was exhilarating, yet soothing, if that's possible.

Anything else you want to share?
It took four months, but I finally achieved Awesome Possum! I celebrated with chocolate.
I booked a private class for my birthday at Soul Flyte, and I highly recommend it!
